Our house

In building a sustainable house, we wanted to employ a method that would drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the process. Our research revealed that for many reasons, rammed earth is the most sustainable method of building today. We were also impressed by its many other benefits such as its beauty, acoustical qualities, health benefits and fire-resistant qualities.

 

Enlisting the support of sustainable award winning architect Terrell Wong was an excellent starting point for the project.  The stunning design of the house helps bring it close to Passive House standards. Wong’s concept has allowed us to create the perfect solar (that is, south facing) house while completely fitting the naturally east-facing slope of our property.

 

We have come to realize that building with rammed earth has the potential to the change the build environment in Southern Ontario. As a result, our house has been designed as a model home for aerecura rammed earth builders, a prototype for reducing the carbon footprint for residential and commercial building.
